A lo que íbamos, hoy he encargado el libro "Creativity Today" que, como habréis adivinado, trata sobre los procesos creativos y cómo aprender a llevarlos a cabo para aplicarlos en cualquier situación (negocios, educación, arte...).

De lo poco que he visto en las pocas páginas que pueden previsualizarse, me ha encantado la sección "Las cinco ideas falsas más importantes [sobre creatividad]". La primera de ellas se titula así:

"O eres creativo o no lo eres. No se puede aprender"

Y nos comentan que la creatividad SÍ se puede aprender, que es una habilidad y, aunque es cierto que hay personas que la tienen de forma innata, se puede trabajar dedicándole tiempo.

¡Aahhh, qué lindas palabras! Creo que deberían ser tenidas en cuenta por todas esas personas que:

• Anulan a otras personas diciéndoles que no sirven para tal o cual cosa (como algunos profesores hacen más de lo que deberían)
• Se anulan a sí mismas repitiéndose una y otra vez que no son creativas y no sirven para la música, o dibujar, o hacer manualidades, o generar ideas para un proyecto, etc, etc.

El caso es que en la página donde he encargado el libro hay una sección que pone "Downloads" a la que he ido raudo y veloz a ver qué podría descargarme. Pues bien, he encontrado un póster titulado "IDEA KILLERS", es decir "MATA IDEAS" con las frases más típicas que oímos cuando proponemos alguna novedad:

• Sí, pero...
• No es posible...
• Seamos realistas...
• No soy creativo...
• No tenemos tiempo...
• Es demasiado caro...

Está en inglés y en formato A3 aunque yo me lo he imprimido en una hoja A4. Lo mejor será colgarlo en el sitio de trabajo y cada vez que se te ocurra alguna idea y la desestimes rápidamente, te leas los "mata ideas" para evitarle una muerte prematura. 

The Dark Knight proves one size fits all. The box office bohemoth is both a cinematic masterpiece and marketing marvel.  Yeah, I put Marvel in there on purpose.  Heh heh.  With legions of poster designs, websites, t-shirts, collectible action figures, rallies and yes, even baked goods with cellphone filled centers, The Dark Knight has managed to creep its way into every nook and cranny of the American psyche.  

 

I've seen The Dark Knight three times, have five posters from the film hanging on my walls, and the soundtrack is playing on my computer as I write this post.  I know, I've caught the TDK bug and it's not going away any time soon.

Here are the five things I find most stellar about The Dark Knight.

1.  Movie Poster Designs

As an artist, this one shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.  ;o)  The Dark Knight movie poster designs are some of the best I have ever seen.  We can thank the following companies for some of the poster designs created for the film.

I purchased a version of this one from MovieGoods.  I was not able to locate a version of this poster anywhere else that was new and in the size I wanted.  Their selection of posters is outstanding and they simply have the best customer service anywhere!  Don't worry, I'm not part of any affiliate program, they're just really great and I want to share.  The poster I received was actually a little dark, so I asked if I could get a replacement.  They not only sent me another poster, but let me keep the first poster I received.  I couldn't believe it.  That's above and beyond the call of customer service!  So check out MovieGoods for the best poster design selections and service.

 

2.  Acting Performance/Script

Without a doubt Heath Ledger poured every ounce of himself into The Joker and left audience's around the world thirsting for more.  

I didn't want to blink for fear I'd miss something spectacular.  An absolutely mesmerizing performance that is most inspiring!  I loved Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman as always, but it was Heath who truly stole the show.  Mourned by millions and marveled by all, Heath Ledger was an amazing human being on and off the screen.  His performance has also inspired numerous imitations and spoofs.  Check out YouTube for this really great rendition of The Joker.

The script for The Dark Knight is a gem that is as delightful to read as it is to watch come alive on the screen.  

With a great script to begin with, Heath Ledger was able to immortalize more lines than anyone could have imagined.  Lines like, "Why so serious" and "It's all part of the plan" have already become a part of our subconscious.  Make sure to download a copy of this amazing piece of writing over at joblo.com and sit back and enjoy the read!

3.  Soundtrack

James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer join forces again to create the score for The Dark Knight and as The Joker would say, "And you didn't disappoint."  It's a thrill ride from the get go with its pulsing synth chords and uplifting, powerful and unforgettable themes.  It gets right under your skin and doesn't let go.  I highly recommend this soundtrack.  Buyers beware, it is addictive.  ;o)

4. Collectible Action Figures

Where do I begin... these figures are simply out of this world!  Hot Toys is the maker of these incredible collectibles and one of these guys goes for about $175.00.  No wonder The Joker robbed a bank at the beginning of the movie...

5. Fan Art

Jim Hance is a fantastic artist!  Check out his website strangelydrawn.com for all sorts of unique paintings.  Ever see a Stormtrooper in a dress?  You'll have to see it for yourself, it's great!

The Dark Knight DVD is set to be released December 9th.

Warner Bros. is also hoping to rerelease The Dark Knight in theatres at the end of 2008 in lieu of the Oscars.  Keeping it fresh in the minds of its fans.

DVD features will include:

O primeiro poster do filme solo da Chun-Li foi mostrado na Tokyo Game Show 2008. Está lindo, honestamente. A Kristen Kreuk é uma boneca e os olhos azuis combinando com o lindo vestido de sede foram um toque que, apesar de polêmico, foi esteticamente um acerto e tanto.

Paramount Vantage have released the trailer and poster for their upcoming “Defiance,” to have its world premiere at LA’s AFI festival on the 9th of November. Daniel Craig headlines the latest war epic from Edward Zwick based on a true story, who, along with Live Schreiber and Jamie Bell, play three brothers in this WWII story who escape from the Nazis into a nearby forrest and set out to rescue their fellow Jews in a to-the-death campaign of defiance. Check out the trailer below, which I chose to wait for since I don’t want Variety’s logo anywhere near my blog, and the poster is courtesy of In Contention/Comingsoon.

Los juegos, son MUY buenos... la pelicula, la cambiaron un poco, pero aun asi, BUENISIMA!! La fotografia excelente, y la historia se apega muchisimo al Silent Hill 1, sobre todo en el principio, hasta la silla de ruedas! Creo que la escena que mas me dio "miedo" fue cuando sale el que esta en el baño... que bueno estuvo!!

Todos los posters mantienen el mismo estilo, sin saturarlo, dandole el enfoque al personaje con el estilo oscuro que tanto me gusta.

Movies rarely compare favorably to the books from which they are adapted and almost never surpass them. Still, film adaptations of books can be fantastic if handled by the right director--take Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón for example, whose brilliant films Children of Men and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (adaptations of books by P.D James and J.K. Rowling, respectively) convey richly imagined, engrossing worlds. Cuarón's films join a small stable of adaptations that live up to--if not surpass--the books on which they are based. Most great film adaptations turn good genre fiction into great art. However, great literature doesn't usually fare so well. Geniuses like Kubrick and Coppla have reconfigured airport reading like Stephen King's The Shining and Mario Puzo's The Godfather into cinematic masterpieces, but has anyone ever done justice to Melville or Hemingway or Hawthorne or Fitzgerald (of the four attempts at translating Gatsby to the screen, the 1974 Coppola-produced effort is arguably the best, but consider how short it falls of capturing Fitzgerald's vision)? Which brings up the question: just how good, bad, or indifferent will the upcoming movie adaptation of Cormac McCarhy's Pulitzer Prize winner The Road be? We thought we'd navigate the pros and cons here.

What The Road film adaptation has going for it:

The director: Australian director John Hillcoat's 2005 feature film debut The Proposition captured the bloody violence and moral ambiguity of a world alienated from civilization. We loved the movie, and not enough people have seen it. The tone Hillcoat achieved in The Proposition seems well matched to McCarthy's grim vision.

The producer: Nick Wechsler's list of films includes Sex, Lies, and Videotape, The Player, Requiem for a Dream, 25th Hour, and Drugstore Cowboy--so it seems like he knows how to sit back and let a filmmaker create art without trying to, you know, have a massive Hollywood hit.

The leading man: Viggo Mortensen as the father seems like a great choice. Mortensen brought depth to the role he's most famous for--Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy--something of a feat when you consider most of his screen time was devoted to scowling, brooding, or chopping up orcs. He was fantastic in the films he did with David Cronenberg, A History of Violence and Eastern Promises (his bathhouse fight scene is unbelievable). Mortensen's a published author who started his own publishing house, Perceval Press, so he probably understands the literary gravity of The Road.

The story: Anyone who's read The Road knows that it's a sad and moving and strangely beautiful take on one of the most hackneyed devices of science fiction: the post-apocalyptic wasteland.

No Country for Old Men: The Coen brothers did a great job with No Country for Old Men.

Potential problem spots for The Road film adaptation:

The cast: We don't know much about twelve year old Kodi Smit-McPhee who plays the son, but we do know that that is a major role. Let's hope Kodi is more Jodie, less Jake Lloyd or (shiver) Dakota Fanning. However, Viggo's had pretty positive things to say about him. Ringers Robert Duvall and Guy Pearce are also in there, but there aren't too many other speaking parts in the book besides the father and the son, so it's hard to predict what they'll be doing--hopefully Hillcoat hasn't fiddled with the story too much. Charlize Theron is also in the movie. The wife character showed up in a few dreamy flashbacks, but was more of a shadow than a fleshed out character; again, hopefully Hillcoat hasn't chosen to expand the role to appease a wider demographic.

The story: Some of the best moments of The Road consist of the father's inner monologues on memory and loss and very few directors can pull off a voice-over successfully (Terrence Malick is the only one who comes to mind right now). Of course, this problem of language is always the problem of movie adaptation.

All the Pretty Horses: Billy Bob Thornton's leaden 2000 adaptation of the first of McCarthy's "border trilogy" is pretty boring. I'll admit that I've never finished the book, despite three attempts.

No Country for Old Men: Even though the Coens did a great job with No Country for Old Men, the book was still better than the movie--and No Country is, in some ways, McCarthy's take on a genre novel, the crime procedural. In this sense, the Coens made a smart move, but they still couldn't convey the depth and meaning of the book--again, much of it delivered via Sheriff Ed Tom Bell's inner monologues. Although The Road may appear to have genre fiction elements--namely, the tropes of post-apocalyptic sci-fi--to describe it as such would be a severe limitation, as would be to film it in such a manner.

The advance stills: Sure, they're grim and bleak, but are they grim and bleak enough?
