Hasta nuestro presente ciclo, llegó la leyenda que relata que en el principio, existía un browser (WWWViola) y el Supremo Webmaster decidió que no podía ser bueno... 

Desde esos tiempos ahora tan remotos y casi olvidados, surgieron Mosaic , Spyglass (base para nuestro actual Internet Explorer )con la llegada de Google Chrome , la gama de programas para navegar por la Web, recibió un empujoncito en la dirección correcta: La del Usuario Final.

No nos hagamos los locos... aunque por tradición, por ignorancia o por pura y simple pereza algunos usuarios prefieren utilizar el navegador que lleva instalado su sistema operativo (Internet Explorer en Windows, Safari en Mac OS X, Firefox y otro montón en Linux) la mayoría prefieren desde algún tiempo experimentar con alternativas, probarlas y (cuando el experimento es exitoso) «cambiarse» de navegador al que más se ajusta a sus gustos y/o necesidades.

La eterna pregunta: ¿Que Navegador es mejor?

Ante esta, considero que lo más prudente es el consabido "Depende, Profesor!" de nuestro amigo Pepito (Si no te sabés el chiste... preguntá por allí!) Pues hay un navegador para cada gusto y necesidad. Desde los auto-proclamados minimalistas (Opera y Chrome) hasta los más complejos y vanguardistas (Firefox e Internet Explorer)

Las características individuales de cada uno, ("Coqueterías", las llama el Colega Gálvez) van desde lo superfluo hasta lo francamente indispensable:

Hace unos días, Durante el evento de WCF, Erick Esquivel y Carlos Lone nos invitaron a probar el nuevo navegador de Microsoft: El Internet Explorer 8 (Sip Beta 2).

Aunque sólo es un beta, posee muchas características que lo convierten en una alternativa muy atractiva para la navegación personal y/o empresarial. en palabras de Microsoft CCA:

Internet Explorer 8 cuenta con nuevas características interesantes, que permiten ahorrar tiempo y que hacen la exploración web más fácil y rápida que nunca (en IE, por Supuesto).

Una de las nuevas características que más me llaman la atención son los Aceleradores, pues con ellos ya no es necesario abrir varias pestañas o ventanas en el explorador para obtener la información que se necesita, pues facilitan el acceso a múltiples tipos de información (mapas, definiciones, búsquedas en la Web, traducciones) en una única ventana de Internet Explorer 8. (Aunque permite personalizar los proveedores de servicios, los Default son... Oh, sorpresa! de Microsoft)

IE 8 has the same display problem as does Avant right now; Orca (which I'm using to make this post) has the clean display and lightweight CPU and memory usage as does Avant.  To repeat myself.  Firefox seems incredibly slow to start but then does its usual "pretty damn' graceful for a drunken elephant" act.

Microsoft ha lanzado la segunda beta de su Internet Explorer 8, el navegador que promete revolucionar la web. Es decir, ponerse al mismo nivel que el resto de los navegadores, que con esa utopía ya estábamos todos más que contentos. Por las comparativas que van saliendo, parece que Microsoft se lo está tomando en serio, y aunque todavía está bastante lejos de competidores como Firefox, mejora considerablemente el rendimiento de Internet Explorer 7.

Las mejoras son muchas y variadas: página de inicio supervitaminalizada, barra a lo Firefox 3, pestañas coloreadas, modo porno (sin guardar las páginas en el historial), aceleradores (búsquedas personalizadas y bookmarklets), búsquedas en vivo, mejoras en seguridad… Hay un montón de novedades, y cada una de ellas daría para un artículo completo, lo que indica que se está convirtiendo en un navegador de verdad. Esperemos que siga mejorando antes de sacar la versión definitiva, y que uno de los aspectos en los que hagan más hincapié sea los estándares, ya que las pruebas actuales (Acid3 y demás) no lo dejan muy bien parado.

La descarga está disponible para XP, Vista, Server 2003 y 2008; viene tanto en 32 bits como en 64 bits; y está en Inglés, Japonés, Chino y Alemán. "speed is never a priority with microsoft ~ just about all their products are clunky and slow. can we say VISTA, take a shoe to that lemon."

In my conclusion, IE 8 consumes a lot of pc memory due to its user-interface. I agree.. IE 8 got the style to hook internet browsers, but the more style it uses, the more resolution it takes; the more resolution it takes, the more it causes pc to run slower..

From other opinions, they say that during the browsing moment, IE 8 runs different scripts or codes that are needed for browsing a site..

Operating systems such as Windows are not as important as they once were, with many systems operating all the key functions and features users desire.

Google believes the browser should be less intrusive on the user experience, use less processor power and system resources to run the app's consumers need while at the same time offering up a bullet proof architecture that should reduce browser crashes. If anyone uses IE 7, you are well aware of browser crashes. Many people using Internet Explorer have stayed with IE 6.

The architecture segregates each open browser into a separate partition in memory, which also has the side benefit of enhancing security through separating the activity of a malicious web site and restricting it from reaching outside the partition to harm any other processes taking place on the computer.

Google relied on open source development already pioneered by Mozilla. Also, the engine behind Apple's Safari browser was relied on in developing Chrome.

Reportedly, it is very fast, exceeding Firefox in many instances. Simple in design, able to create application shortcuts on your desktop, and a tab system that is located at the top of the browser. A task manager lets you monitor which web pages or add-ons are consuming the most processor resources. The tabs can be dragged around to a separate area of the desktop. The search and address line have been combined into one.

Chrome doesn't support the extensions in Firefox and there is no print preview feature. Still, it is an interesting development in the browser wars and may prod Microsoft into improving their browser with the release of IE 8, rather than just issuing a stock release that doesn't have much feature enrichment.

I still like Firefox but will use Chrome occasionally to put it through its paces. I'm a geek, and will be looking to monitor its development down the road.

Segun un estudio, Internet Explorer 8 Beta consume más recursos que Windows XP, además de:

• consume de 350 mb - 400 mb de RAM
• 150 - 200 hilos de ejecución
• 6 instancias de procesos "iexplorer.exe"

Esto sin tomar una carga amplia de navegación. Parece que Internet Explorer 8 hará la pareja perfecta de Windows Vista.

Después de la aparición del nuevo navegador de Google, el Chrome, me he decidido ha hacer una comparativa entre los tres últimos navegadores más extendidos y el Chrome: Opera 9.5, IE 8 Beta 2, Google Chrome y Firefox 3.0.1, y los requerimientos que demandan de nuestros ordenadores.

Para hacer dicha prueba he utilizado el "Administrador de tareas" de Windows ( lo más sencillo ), y he echo tres pruebas:

1ª- Abrir el navegador con "Pagina en blanco" ( poner en la barra de direcciones ABOUT:BLANK ) y ver cuanta memoria consume

2ª- Abrir la página web del periódico El País ( www.elpais.com ), he utilizada esta porque tiene muchas fotos, anuncios animados, etc, y hace trabajar a nuestra CPU.

3ª- Volver a la página en blanco, para ver que parte de memoria se quedaba utilizada inútilmente.

Y los resultados son estos:

OPERA 9.5:

Abrir navegador: Se come 21 Mb de memoria.

Visitar El País: Se come 47 Mb de memoria y la CPU está entre el 7%-35% (*)

Volver a página en blanco: Se queda en 44 Mb., así que quedan 23 Mb utilizadas para nada.

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2:

Abrir navegador: Se come 61 Mb de memoria el solito.

Visitar El País: Se come 99 Mb de memoria y la CPU está entre el 8%-38% (*)

Volver a página en blanco: Se queda en 93 Mb., así que quedan 32 Mb utilizadas para nada.

Google Chrome:

Abrir navegador: Se come 37 Mb.

Visitar El País: Se come 54 Mb., y la CPU está entre 8%-15% (*)

Volver a página en blanco: Se queda en 41 Mb., así que quedan 4 Mb utilizadas para nada.

Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1:

Abrir navegador: Se come 29 Mb.

Visitar El País: Se come 47 Mb., y la CPU está entre 4%-11% (*)

Volver a página en blanco: Se queda en 44 Mb., así que quedan 15 Mb utilizadas para nada.

(*) - La CPU utilizada es un Intel de 2.6 Mhz.

Conclusiones:

El Opera realmente gasta pocos recursos, aunque hace trabajar a la CPU más que el Firefox, no cuenta con corrector ortográfico. Dicen por ahí que es el más seguro, aunque cualquier navegador que use Java y Controles Activex está sujeto a posibles vulnerabilidades.

El Explorer sigue siendo una bestia parda, con un consumo de recursos alucinante, a parte de eso con la barra Google para el IE tiene opciones muy buenas como el corrector ortográfico, y presenta como novedad la navegación de incógnito, de momento sólo está en Inglés. - Por cierto, con este navegador no se visualiza bien la página de escribir de este blog, al lado de la barra de direcciones tiene una pestaña para ver bien lo que ellos llaman "websites diseñados para navegadores antiguos"

El Chrome gasta la mitad de recursos que el explorer, pero tiene sus fallos, hay páginas en las que falla y se queda "pensando" como si la página nunca acabara de cargar, además en teoría lleva incorporado el corrector ortográfico, en otros foros funciona perfectamente pero en este blog NO funciona ¿¿??. También dispone de la navegación en incógnito, y está en castellano.

El Firefox es, junto con el Opera, de los que menos recursos consume, con la barra Google también puedes tener el corrector ortográfico, pero no dispone de la navegación en incógnito.

Una cosa, si queréis hacer la comprobación vosotros mismos tener en cuenta que tanto el IE8 como el Chrome se abren varias veces ( eso es debido a que cada pestaña actúa por separado ), así que para saber cuanta memoria os está consumiendo debéis sumar las cantidades de cada apartado. El Firefox y el Opera sólo se abren una vez.

En este estudio no he comprobado para nada la rapidez de los navegadores, tan sólo los recursos que gastan.

The answer is simple, Upcoming IE8 & Firefox are now attempting to add a new browser feature (InPrivate) which will allow the user to browse through the sites without allowing the websites to track the activity through the cookies, history, form data or password.

Earlier, the users who know about this would clear the browser cache, now with InPrivate, it will be automatically erased after the browser session was over (lol).

This creates a greater impact on Google's base from the search to analytics, so now they want to counter attack by providing a browser.

In today's world, almost each and every activity is tracked down by companies like Google (DoubleClick), Omniture, etc... These guys take a greater hit, if IE8 launches since the market share is really high and Microsoft will make sure the browser gets updated ASAP.

Thats all it is about Google's Chrome, We know Google's Chrome has lot of other nice features and it also has this privacy feature hidden as incognito (its under create a new incognito window(CTRL+SHIFT+N)), but IE8 is coming out with a very open and visible privacy protection for end users who are unaware of they are being tracked.

Even with the InPrivate turned on, they are ways to track the activity of user in a website. Google Chrome looks like a pre-caution step by google before it gets affected by IE-8.0.

Another thing, I noticed is little different, On the Chrome Browser Click options, In "Under the Hood" Tab click on the "Change Proxy Settings" It will bring down the Internet Explorer's Internet Options .... No Clue... This makes me think, Even if the Chrome Browser itself is build from scratch...

So if I change the proxy setting in IE, it will surely affect the Google's Chrome as well... So ... I don't think Google's Chrome as a Independent Browser... Come on Guys did you release the beta in a hurry!!!?

Opera, Firefox and IE are improving themselves with new features, functionality and added security. A triple play war of market share in which IE being the dominant browser slowly letting go of its ground. In its fight back Microsoft  has released IE8 beta 2 which had a lot of punch and new innovations.

Just as the I had begun to get used to IE 8, I heard about Google chrome and downloaded it immediately. My first impression was that it a simple browser with minimum space being used for toolbars and more space available for viewing the webpage. In some ways reminding us of the simplicity of the Google search engine home page and its search listing.

To be fair it has a great look and feel and yes browsing is definitely good with Google chrome, but I miss my RSS feed downloads, my IRC chat, my mail client and my mouse gestures that I can get only with opera.

Good try chrome and IE 8 and I really doubt that the developers will be able get new features in these browsers, till then after 36 hours I am back to opera and so will the others once the novelty of the new  wear off.

Velocidad: Según casi todo lo que leído, gana Firefox, seguido de cerca por Chrome, e Internet Explorer queda bastante atrás. Otros sitios (como el Financial Times) dicen que Chrome es más rápido pero que Firefox falla menos.

Espacio: Tanto Firefox como Chrome ocupan poco espacio en el disco duro, mientras que el nuevo IE no sólo ocupa más que otras versiones, sino que ocupa más que todo el Windows XP, o que todo el Office de Windows Vista, o el doble que Firefox. Así que si no tienes mucho espacio, no te servirá de nada.

Seguridad: Aunque el IE ha puesto mucho esfuerzo en mejorar su seguridad, el hecho de que sea el buscador más utilizado lo condena. Mientras que su ratio cantidad/importancia de fallos de seguridad es más o menos igual que Firefox, al ser mayoritario todos los ataques informáticos entran por el IE. Aún no se ha escrito casi nada sobre la seguridad en Chrome (alguna noticia alarmista, como de costumbre), pero hasta que se arreglen sus posibles problemas le va a seguir salvando lo mismo que a Firefox.

Características: Firefox gana de calle con sus add-ons, aunque Chrome tiene algo muy interesante: sus pestañas funcionan individualmente, por lo que si se te cuelga una, puedes seguir utilizando las demás. Yo tengo tendencia a tener 15 pestañas abiertas a la vez, por lo que esto me viene muy bien. También dicen que Chrome funcionará mejor con los Google Docs, otra forma interesante de ahorrar espacio en el disco duro. Internet Explorer tiene características de privacidad muy avanzadas de las que mucho se ha hablado, aunque las de Chrome son iguales. La página de inicio de Chrome muestra, con un buen diseño, recuadros con las páginas más visitadas.

Mientras que Chrome siga en fase beta me quedo con Firefox, aunque creo que el navegador de Google puede ser un buen contendiente en un par de años. Además parece que en el futuro podría convertirse en la base de un sistema operativo virtual (por lo que estaría disponible en cualquier ordenador y ocuparía menos espacio en el disco duro) y personalizable (por estar en código abierto), que es lo que más miedo le daba a Microsoft. Su Internet Explorer es, por resumir, lamentable.

Yesterday however I read the news that Google was going to way in with it's own browser. A browser it boasted that had taken the best from Apple ad Mozzila and added to it themselves. Excited I downloaded and was pleased to find a very clean, easy looking UI. The awesome bar is there (good news) and there are a few new features (undercover tabs called 'incognito' where nothing is stored from your browsing), independant tabs (if one breaks teh rest keep going) etc. 

So far so good, I like. Haven't figured out how to install plugins for it like the feed side bar I use in Firefox. I could definatley see me switching to Chrome from Firefox...or better still see firefox incorporate some of these clever new ideas in teh next installment.

Debido a que es una noticia emocionante, creo que merece un post(a pesar que no tenga que ver mucho con el blog, si es que el blog tiene algún tema...), ha aparecido un nuevo explorador de internet, y no cualquier explorador, ha aparecido un explorador de internet hecho por google! Bajo el nombre Google Chrome, este pedazo de tecnología eleva todavía más el nivel de competencia en la web. Fue develado por accidente, cuando un comic que explica las características del nuevo explorador fue enviado más temprano de lo previsto y terminó publicado en internet. Como con todas las noticias de este tipo, apareció en digg, blogs y agencias de noticias, con tal rapidez que google se vió obligado a anunciar que hoy lo liberarían en versión beta, para que todo el mundo lo descargue.

¿Por qué es emocionante tener este nuevo explorador?

• Porque es de google.
• Porque es open source, es decir, otra gente puede copiar cualquier buena idea que hayan tenido y mejorar otros exploradores.
• Porque se siente ligero y tiene ese tono de azul o celeste que tanto le gusta a google. Ni siquiera tiene "status bar" (¿barra de estado?).
• Porque tiene un administrador de tareas (task manager), incluido que me deja ver que página web se comporta mal y eliminarla con eficacia y un cierto placer por la dulce venganza.
• Porque es otro frente de presión sobre internet explorer para que se esfurece más en cumplir con  estándares (aunque hay que admitir que ya se están esforzando).
• Porque gmail abre rápido (y, además, tiene un modo para aplicaciones web, donde la ventana elimina los menús y la barra de direcciones para que las aplicaciones se parezcan más a apliaciaciones de escritorio).

  (bueno, no lo dicen explicitamente, pero tampoco lo niegan...)

• Porque separa cada pestaña como un proceso diferente y además las aisla unas de otras por seguridad.  Me gusta esto porque solamente la idea hace que se sienta más ordenado.
• Porque hay un modo "incógnito", para los usuarios que quieren limpiar sus rastros sin muchos problemas, y porque se llama "incógnito" y eso me parece gracioso. Voy a entrar al "modo incógnito...".
• Porque usaron un comic para explicar qué había de nuevo.

Además corre javascript más rápido usando diversas optimizaciones.

Con el tiempo habrá que ver lo bueno y lo malo, pero los de google parecen bienintencionados (como siempre, sospechoso, ¿no?). Es un pequeño salto hacia adelante para la web, software fresco, javascript más rápido (firefox también va a sacar su versión con miles de optimizaciones, y seguro que ie hará lo mismo) y además da un agradable sentimiento de poder como usuario.

As a web developer who knows the difficulties of developing and supporting across multiple browsers with all their different features and nuances... I did not welcome this announcement at all - just another web browser to slow down development and create more expensive system support - thanks Google!

My second thought on this was... this is just Google being completely self-centred... this development is purely to give them much tighter control over the future direction of Google Gears... and from that angle... fair play to them!

Anyway... went to download this on my Suse Linux box... followed the link from Google's home page and then got sent around in circles across infomation pages with no Download link.... why?... because Google Chrome Beta isn't available for Linux... but their web site doesn't tell you that! Logged onto one of my Windows Vista machines and have downloaded and installed there.

So first impressions...

• Speed - page rendering speed is unbelievable... leaves Microsoft Internet Explorer and even the new speedy Firefox 3 sitting on the starting lines... only comment here is that rendering engine is obviously different enough in places to necessitate substantial additional web developer testing. I logged into my Windows Live / Hotmail account and there were icons displayed on the wrong part of the screen and problems with javascript... all of which currently works OK in both IE and Firefox... not good!
• Very simple looking interface. Nice! The look and feel is, by and far, the cleanest looking browser I've ever seen. Looks really cool with Windows Vista transparency behind the tabs at the top... again.... just nice!
• Tabbed web pages... nothing particularly new there... although apparently behind the scenes this is much improved over Microsoft Internet Explorer and Firefix - especially around multi-threading and error handling... haven't been able to test this yet.
• Dynamic Tabs - nothing blindingly innovative here... this is a clear rip-off of Safari functionality. It would seem that Google are taking a leaf out of Microsoft's rule of thumb on copying cool features from other products instead of coming up with ideas of your own.
• Crash Control - idea being that if one application in one tab crashes, then the whole browser doesn't mess up - all other applications in other tabs keep working OK. Wasn't able to get anything to crash on an individual tab page so can't really comment on this one at the minute. Sounds like a cool feature though. Did manage to get the whole browser to crash and shut down completely though... the address bar is really, really screwy!
• Incognito Mode - essentially private browsing - for times when you want to browse in "stealth mode". Again a much touted feature of the up-and-coming Internet Explorer 8 this feature has been dubbed "porn mode" for the new generation of browsers.
• Safe Browsing - Google Chrome warns you if you're about to visit a suspected unsafe web site. Nothing new or innovative there either - all features that are present in all major browsers.
• Instant Bookmarks - Where you just click on the star in the Firefox address bar to add a favourite... er I mean Google Chrome Address bar... I'd be very, very surprised if Firefox doesn't sue over this blatant copyright infringement... again
• Google Apps - All work blindingly, blindingly fast - with each application opening in a separate tab.
• Google Gears Support - I tested this with my Google Apps -> Google Docs... works amazingly fast! Amazingly fast! Also was able to get my Application shortcuts added OK to desktop, start menu, quicklaunch bar etc no problems. Very, Very impressed.
• Extensions Support like those available for Firefox... seemingly non-existent - although I haven't investigated fully.
• Comparison to Internet Explorer 8 Beta - think they are going to need to come up with something better. We are really starting to see the Google strategy come together for tight integration between the browser and web-based applications... Microsoft needs to get much much better on its Windows Live Services being integrated together and with their browser moving forward... it would seem that it's really game on now moving forward with everything to play for - The OS, The Browser, The Applications are all up for grabs...
• Stability - not bad at all. Noticed a few glitchy little delays as I was typing into the address bar... but nothing I'm going to runaway screaming from.

Was a bit dissappointed with the lack of Linux support so far on this Beta... would have thought Google would have had that in there as a minimum in their ever escalating war against Microsoft.

If Google released a free operating system to go alongside and integrate really tightly with their free browser, and their free applications, and their free Android phone, then Microsoft would have a real problem on their hands.

All in all... still a beta... still a bit glitchy - I wouldn't be rushing to put my credit card details through it just yet! Not hugely innovative in regards to new features that you can see with the naked eye end-user experience - they've really ripped off good features of other browsers which, when brought together like this, make it quite compelling. Is clearly oriented towards the usage of Google's own applications.

The potential of this browser taking a huge chunk of browser market share from Microsoft... given Google's notoriety, and extensive deployment channels...absolutely huge!

My verdict: Chrome is a smart, innovative browser that, in many common scenarios, will make using the Web faster, easier and less frustrating. But this first version—which is just a beta, or test, release—is rough around the edges and lacks some common browser features Google plans to add later. These omissions include a way to manage bookmarks, a command for emailing links and pages directly from the browser, and even a progress bar to show how much of a Web page has loaded.

Mossberg also looks at the beta for Internet Explorer 8, declaring it "he best edition of Internet Explorer in years," which for some cynics might not be saying much. But he adds that both Chrome and IE 8 are better than Apple's Safari.

Mossberg also offers more insight into why he thinks Google is getting into the browser wars, some of which I noted yesterday:

First, the search giant fears that because its search engine and other major products depend on the browser, Microsoft—with its rival online products—might be able to gain an advantage by altering the design of IE, which has roughly a 75% market share.

Second, and more important, Google sees the Web as a platform for the software programs, or applications, that currently run directly on computer operating systems, notably Microsoft's Windows. It says current browsers lack the underlying architecture to enable future, more powerful Web applications that will rely more heavily on a common Web programming language called JavaScript. Chrome was designed to be the world's speediest browser at handling JavaScript.

That move might one day make Chrome a sort of online operating system that competes with Windows. "Think of Chrome as more than a simple Web browser," Google declares. "It's a platform for running Web applications."

The open-source software project, to be detailed later Tuesday at Google's headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., should dispel any lingering thoughts that the browser wars are over. To be sure, it's less cutthroat now than in the 1990s, but one of technology's most powerful companies is now on the battlefield.

So how does Chrome change the competitive landscape?

Initially at least, it's not likely to change the market share rankings. According to Net Applications' browser market share statistics for August, IE has 72 percent share, Firefox 20 percent, Safari 6 percent, and Opera 1 percent.

But even before Google's browser became available for download, its repercussions were traversing the industry. There are plenty of implications from a company as large as Google that build a browser tuned to advance the company's agenda of Web-based applications.

Here are some possible implications for the four major alternatives to Chrome.
