Mary is only six years old, but has been blessed (or cursed) with hips and a bootie. She isn't heavy or overweight, but built like an athlete: Solid through and through. I found myself picking out jeans for her to try on at a local department store. Since she wore a size 6/6x last year, I picked up size 7 and headed to the fitting room. Mary is very modest, so I waited in the chair outside her room. To my surprise, she grunts, "I can't get these things up!" "Let me see," I replied in my concerned yet disbelieving voice. Sure enough, they were stuck mid thigh, and there was no way they could go any higher. Huh.

Mary was horrified that the jeans with coveted purple sparkly hearts wouldn't make it home and safely tucked into the bottom drawer of her dresser. Actually, we were forced into the Plus Size section of the girls department, which is a place of shame and horror for a somewhat vain little girl. "Do I look fat?" Mary asks. After regaining the breath that was sucked from my lungs, I said, "Of course you're not fat baby. Some girls are just shaped differently." She gave me the "Sure mom, whatever you say" look. It hurt my heart.

What kind of a world are we living in where a little girl worries about her shape and how the latest fashions will fit her? I just want to give a shout out to children's clothing manufacturers who are chipping away at the self concept of our youth. Sheesh, like I needed more help on that front!

Integrity Bank's skyrocket run as the fastest-growing bank in Georgia history, fueled by housing construction, has ended in failure. 

Birmingham, Ala.-based Regions Financial Corp. (NYSE: RF) late Friday acquired the deposits for the Alpharetta, Ga.-based community bank in the 10th bank U.S. bank failure this year, according to a late Friday press release from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.The FDIC estimates the cost to liquidate bad assets it assumes from Integrity Bank will be $250 million to $350 million.

Integrity Bank operates five branches in metro Atlanta, primarily in the city's affluent north suburbs.Regions Financial acquired all of Integrity’s $962 million in total deposits, including uninsured deposits, paying $9.7 million for them. The deal does not include Integrity Bank's branches. However, Integrity Bank branches will temporarily open as Regions Financial branches early Tuesday. The FDIC said all customer deposits at the bank will be available for customer use over the weekend through checks, debit cards and ATM withdrawals.

 Regions Financial is also buying $34.4 million in cash and other assets from the failed bank.

My dear husband shared with me the other day that he was at a rest stop and was propositioned.  Here is what he told me... I share with you as if he were talking:

I was at the rest stop and filling up the tank and this woman - well, what I thought was a woman came up to me.  She had this huge PINK wig on and I was thinking that she looked like the drag queens for the Project Runway challenge we just saw.  She asked me if I needed any help and I told her I was good.  When she spoke, I realized that she was a he.  So a little time goes by, I'm lashing down the stuff in the truck more and (s)he comes back!  This time she says, "Are you sure I can't give you a hand?"  I practically yelled NO! and hoped back in the truck.  I've heard of lot lizards, but I've never been propositioned!

This is the part int the story when I reel in my laughter about the 'give you a hand' part and jump to: WHAT is a Lot Lizard? 

He once knew a trucker who told him about Lot Lizards.  For those of you completely unaware of perverse things, a LL is one who practices prostitution at rest stops and targets truckers.  Upon learning that tidbit, I then learned that this is such a problem for some truckers that there is a market for stickers that say 'No Lot Lizards!' Can you believe it?  I have provided a sample for you.

Am I the only completely naive person out there who was unaware of this 'industry'?

It would definitely be a hit with the target market of boy-racers!
